Many people start a read-the-Bible-in-a-year plan in January and stop by February. Several chapters a day is a lot when you are just beginning. If you want to build a daily habit, start with a short plan, and write the verses out by hand as you go.

Each month has one verse a day and a theme that follows the church year. None of the verses repeat from one month to the next, so you can keep going month after month.

Advent scripture writing plan: hope, peace, joy and love, starting on the first Sunday of Advent in any year.
Psalm 119: the longest chapter, about three verses a day for 60 days.
Psalm 117: the shortest chapter, two verses you can write in about two minutes. A good first day.

Monthly plan or short plan?

Monthly plans give you one verse for each date. Good if you like to write along with others, or post your page each day.
Short plans stay in one book, so you read the verses in order. Good if you want to understand one part of the Bible well.

Turning a plan into a habit

Pick a regular time and do only a little each day. If you miss a day, carry on the next day without catching up. Writing one verse out by hand after reading will help it stay with you.
