Scripture writingPublished ・Updated ・Penned Grace editors
Short answer
This December 2026 scripture writing plan gives you one verse a day for 31 days, starting with Isaiah 9:2 on December 1 and ending with Psalm 90:12 on December 31. The Advent weeks follow hope, peace, joy and love, Christmas Day (Friday, December 25) is Luke 2:11, and the last week stays with the Christmas story.

Advent begins on Sunday, November 29, 2026, and Christmas Day falls on Friday, December 25. This plan gives you one verse a day for all of December, to write out by hand. The first four weeks follow the Advent themes of hope, peace, joy and love, and the last week stays with the Christmas story. If you wrote through the November 2026 plan, none of these verses repeat it.
How to use this plan
- Write one verse a day, in any translation you like.
- Read the verses around it first, so you know the context.
- Under the verse, note one line about what it shows you of the coming of Jesus.
- Missed a day? Pick up at today’s verse. There is no need to catch up.
The weekly themes
- Dec 1–5: Hope. Waiting for the light, in the first week of Advent.
- Dec 6–12: Peace. The Prince of Peace and the peace He gives.
- Dec 13–19: Joy. The good news the angel brought to the shepherds.
- Dec 20–24: Love. God sent His Son. The week ends on Christmas Eve with Immanuel.
- Dec 25–31: Christmas. The birth of Jesus, and what Mary, the shepherds and Simeon did next.

Christmas Day
The verse for Friday, December 25 is the angel’s announcement to the shepherds:
Today in the city of David a Savior has been born to you. He is Christ the Lord! (Luke 2:11, BSB)
It is short enough to write inside a Christmas card. If your family reads Luke 2 together on Christmas morning, you can write this verse out first and read the rest of the chapter around it.
Advent every year
This plan is fixed to the dates of December 2026. For a plan you can reuse in any year, starting on the first Sunday of Advent, see the Advent scripture writing plan. It uses a different set of verses, so you can follow both.
Print a page
Use the free lined scripture writing page, or the SOAP page if you would like space for a short reflection each day.
Or write it in the app
Penned Grace lets you handwrite each verse on iPhone, iPad or Android with Apple Pencil or your finger. Your handwriting stays in the passage, and the calendar keeps a mark for every day you wrote.
For a guided Advent, the app also has a free plan, Advent in 28 Days, with its own verses. It keeps your place day by day, so you can write it alongside this calendar or on its own.
The January 2027 plan follows this one with 31 days for a fresh start.
